Cancún quick guide: hotel zone, excursions and food

Where to stay
The hotel zone has the beachfront resorts; downtown is cheaper and more local. For a first visit, the hotel zone is the safe bet.
Must-do excursions
- Chichén Itzá, one of the modern seven wonders
- Isla Mujeres by catamaran
- The cenotes on the road to Tulum
- Xcaret or Xel-Há for a full family day
Food
Do not leave without trying cochinita pibil, tacos al pastor and a good mezcal. The hotel zone caters to every budget, but the best tacos are almost always downtown.
